How can poor oral health affect the rest of the body?
It is now proven and well-documented research shows that the health of your mouth can have its detrimental effect in the rest of your body.
Bacteria in your mouth can easily reach your bloodstream and cause effects elsewhere. As a consequence, gum disease has been implicated with other generalized conditions such as heart disease, dementia, respiratory conditions and diabetes.
It is therefore not surprising that people who have poor oral health also have poor general health and conversely, people with poor general health also have neglected mouths.
Most people are totally oblivious to the connection between the mouth and the overall health. But even with the few who do know about the connection, do not take it seriously. Imagine if you were told that your risk of developing heart disease depended quite significantly on the gum disease that you have developed. Would you not take strict action swiftly in order to address the gum disease and also pay attention to any heart disease that you are at risk of?
In the very near future, you will be able to tell which diseases you are at risk of by simply having a dentist to examine you and carry out specific tests.
